The KOMPASS project has been extended until the end of the current ESF Plus funding period.
This means that KOMPASS contact points can continue issuing so-called qualification vouchers for solo self-employed individuals until February 29, 2028—almost two years longer than originally planned.
The program supports measures that are specifically tailored to the qualification needs of participating solo self-employed individuals.

Background

Through targeted qualification measures, solo self-employed individuals can respond to competitive demands in their field. This aims to help them make their business models more crisis-resistant and achieve greater long-term stability.

Who is eligible for funding?

Solo self-employed individuals who:

  • Have been in the market for at least two years
  • Have their residence in Germany
  • Carry out their activities in Germany
  • Operate their business as their main occupation
  • Have a maximum of one full-time equivalent employee

What is funded?

Funding is provided for professional qualification or further training measures for solo self-employed individuals to secure their professional existence and/or increase the stability of their business model.
As long as the basic funding requirements are met, solo self-employed individuals are free to choose their training and, with the support of their contact point, select the appropriate qualification and provider. Possible options include industry- or job-specific training or courses in methodological knowledge, digital skills, or business management competencies.

How does KOMPASS funding work?

Funding is provided in the form of a grant.

The grant covers:

  • Up to 90% of eligible expenses (ESF Plus and federal funds)
  • A maximum of €4,500 (net) in total

Solo self-employed individuals can receive free initial consultations at specialized contact points across Germany to learn about funding conditions. Together, they determine specific business qualification needs (e.g., in digitalization, marketing, finance, social media, crowdfunding, etc.).
Afterward, a qualification voucher is issued for a concrete training measure. The recipient then has six months to complete the qualification.
